maiden voyage - open mic at iq’s
After perfecting some songs, Gary dragged us to the bars one night hoping to light our performing fires.
Turned out Allouez was a bore, Ashwaubenon too new, and DePere too trendy (potted plants in some of the bars...need I say more?) - and besides, the St. Nubs students barfing in the alleys wrecked our karma.
It didn't take us long to figure for good old rock 'n' roll it was Broadway in GB for us.
Yeah, I know, Broadway's all randied up now with organic, free-range tofu and lemon grass soy lattes served at open-air bistros with bricks in the sidewalk and Francois for your waiter, for God's sake. Not a Johnsonville brat to be found there any more. Anyhow, back then you could get your teeth kicked in and hear great music all in one night.

Packer's coach, Mike Holmgren, consults with band members concerning a possible half-time gig.
Gary's cousin, Bill, and wife, Sandy, expertly ran IQ's, lodged on that mean street almost directly under the Mason Street bridge. Nasty outside, welcoming inside. For us it was on to Wednesday night open mic.
Well, we only played three or four songs that night and I don't remember what, but we were awesome. I seem to recall seeing Gary in a flash flying into the mosh pit, but it was hard to be sure what with all those dames surrounding me. Left 'em begging for more. Next up was a real gig.
