![]() This article was originally printed in the Chronicle on February 2, 1965. We read in the papers that the Packer corporation plans to add up to 12,000 more seats at City Stadium. Also, that the price of end zone seats will be increased; and, that children's seat prices will be doubled. The last two moves are being taken to make Packer prices comparable "with other clubs in the league." Altho we have not looked into it, we doubt very much that none of the other clubs have tickets that sell for less than four dollars. And, some of those clubs must sell children's tickets under two dollars. However, regardless of what other clubs are doing with respect to ticket pricing, the community owned Packers should use their won criteria for price structure. We don't recall having ever heard of Halas, Marshall, or any of the other NFL owners soliciting subscriptions for non-profit sharing stock donations to keep their clubs from bankruptcy. As long as the Packers are financially healthy, and as long as the visiting teams are satisfied with their share of the gate, we can not see justification for a price increase. |

It seems to us that the present Packer administration, rolling in the TV bonanza, have too easily forgotten the loyal fans who pulled them through when the going was though. Typical of this new founded independence was Coach Lombardi's tactless statement following the Cardinal defeat at Miami. "I don't have to explain my strategy to anyone." And, it's true, his performance record leaves little room for questioning. But, the sports writers, like the fans, deserve a little courteous consideration, even from the great Lombardi. Considering all that the Packers have received from the people of Green Bay, maybe it's time the Packers did something for the city. A good start might be to donate the temporary seats from City Stadium --those being replaced -- to the city high schools. ![]() Back To websterAvenue.com |
